Course Description:
Optical system design is based on the knowledge of applied optics, which has summarized previous experience in design and arranged some analyses on classic optical instrument designing. The optical system design course aims to equip students with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge of the design of the optical system, through many of design examples. The course also includes aberration theory and correction method in optical design, calculation of initial structure and dimensions of optical system and software design section containing various typical optical instruments like telescope objective, microscope objective, eyepiece and camera lens. Overall, the course is to cultivate students’ ability in independent design and development of optical systems.

While it is also widely applied in civil area such as medical treatment, communication, detect, and monitoring.
Low light level optics is to solve the problems during observation or imaging when the illumination is weak.
This course has a strong characteristic of information, adding knowledge about the acquisition of information with the wavelength out of the visual light spectrum.
